HomeThe Lifekeeper Memory QuiltToby Camilleri

Toby Camilleri

Toby was my second child and only son. It was God’s plan that I had Toby. Toby was born 11 days before his sister Tamara turned 2 years.

I felt a special bond with Toby from the first time I held him in my arms. He was born on a Monday, just missing being born on Sunday, God’s day. We baptised him on Easter Sunday and it was on Easter Sunday that God called him home. I like to think of it that way – that it was God’s decision to release Toby from his pain in this life.

Toby was a beautiful, bright, happy child. He started playing soccer and cricket from the earliest time and continued to love his sport into his teenage years. He was really good at all sports. He loved to surf on his boogie board. He was a good swimmer and competed in all the carnivals in primary school. He loved tennis especially into his adult years.

Toby was such a joker. He had lots of silly sayings and mannerisms that we miss so much now. He became an uncle when his sister had her first baby boy, Sebastian. Toby loved Sebastian so much and likewise Sebastian loved his Uncle Toby. They were great mates. One of the things Toby used to say to Sebastian was “you are too cute, I’m going to have to call the cute police”. Toby said that becoming an uncle was the best thing that had happened to him. Toby was also uncle to Caitlyn.

Toby was a very loving and sensitive soul. He was always saying “love you Mum”, “love you Tamara”. I am so fortunate and thankful that I had a loving and close relationship with Toby.

We had our struggles and disagreements but he knew that I loved him and was always there for him. And I know that he loved me too. Tamara and I will keep his memory alive. We talk about him and the funny things that he used to do. It makes us laugh, then cry. But that’s ok. Toby is in our hearts for ever and ever. We will miss him always.
