Tim Maurer

Next to Tim’s image on the quilt is a saying that Tim carried in his wallet. The words read ” An inch in time is an inch of gold. But you can’t buy an inch of time with an inch of gold.”
We ( Heather and Ian)chose to use these  words on the order of service at Tim’s funeral 21/2 years ago. They have taken on an even more meaningful purpose as time passes.
For our family, they convey the sense of two intangibles that somehow don’t exist in reality, ” an inch of time” and “an inch of gold”
However when you read it and let your mind absorb its message the words become completely tangible. What the phrase conveys is that time spent and shared with the people you love and hold dear is worth any amount of gold on this earth, that time as a family together is the most precious of all things.
For the loved ones who are feeling despair and profoundly deep emotional hurt, time as such can seem to be completely tangible. For our family, and many other families, those most horrific and confronting early days after Tim’s death are etched deeply in our hearts.
Heather and I were absolutely awestruck at the unveiling of the Quilt. The workmanship and diligence that was required to co-ordinate the team to bring it to fruition was ,we must say, most humbling ,heart wrenching, but in Tim’s words “An inch of gold”
