Mathew Schumacher

Little brother you left too soon

You felt alone in your darkness
Something you didn’t want us to witness
But little brother
I love you like no other

You were my best friend
I thought we’d see life together to the very end
You and I side by side
You left and I didn’t get to decide

It doesn’t matter how angry or sad I feel
All the dreams I want to be real
No matter how often my heart hurts to beat still
And all the puddle of tears I fill

Even though I find life impossible without you
And our days together were too few
I know you didn’t try to hurt me
You just needed to feel free

You couldn’t see any way
To blow the dark clouds away
For help you didn’t know how to ask
You just wore your happy mask

If you gave me the chance
I would have tried to brighten your life’s dance
I’ve been there for all the other lows
But for this one that’s not how it goes

Just know I hold you in my heart
Where you have been from the very start
We are together when I close my eyes
Your presence never dies.

Rebecca
